Introduction
The NZART Radioscience Education Trust, a charitable trust, was formed in January 1998.
The Trust was formed by the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters, to help and encourage young persons wishing to further their education in the science of radio. This is in keeping with the aims and objectives of the Association’s Constitution.
The Trust is financed from income produced from donations that have been invested. Being charitable, the Trust is not liable for resident withholding tax on interest or dividends, so donations can be claimed against income tax. Prudent investment strategies are employed, under Professional investment advisers, to maximise the benefits while protecting the fund long term.
Aims and Objects
To promote and encourage education in radioscience, whether by the payment of course fees for worthy candidates, the provision of prizes on a competitive basis for excellence in education activities, or otherwise as the trustees think fit.
Young students such as these could be Radioscience graduates in the years to come, the future generation of leaders in Science and Technology. A small start in this rapidly changing world.
The Trust relies on volunteers from NZART Branches to provide judges to officiate at all of the Science and Technology Fairs and to send in a reports with photos of the prize winners entry to be published in the Association’s magazine, “Break-In”.
Until now the main activity of the Trust has been the provision of prizes (currently worth $100 each) at local Area Science & Technology Fairs. However at a recent meeting of the Trustees held in Christchurch during the recent NZART Convention 2006 the Trustees expressed their concern over the paucity of prize worthy Science & Technology Fair projects. After due consideration the Trustees have decided to offer limited sums of money to support student projects in the general areas of radio and electronics; these will be in addition to the existing Science & Technology Fair prizes. These grants would be targeted towards projects that could lead to exhibits in local area Science & Technology Fairs.
The Annual General Meeting is held on the Sunday morning of Queen’s Birthday weekend (in conjunction with the NZART Conference) so it is possible that there will be changes in those holding office after that date.

Many in the Association and elsewhere have had an experience through Amateur Radio that has enriched their lives, or perhaps seen or heard of something special. Something that you too may wish to perpetuate and pass on to the next generation. The NZART Radioscience Education Trust is a vehicle that can help to make that happen. By making a donation or bequest to the Trust you not only ensure the continuation of the Trusts activities; you have a tax advantage as well.
Donation and Bequests over $5 are tax deductable in accordance with Section KC 5 of the Income Tax Act 1994. These and other details are available from the Trustees.
The Trustees of the NZART Radioscience Education Trust are long serving members of the Association who are held in high regard, freely giving of their time and effort, without any reward for themselves. They are:
